Rehabilitation in Kapiti Coast & Levin

Rehabilitation incorporates all aspects of treatment and management options following an injury or musculoskeletal issue. At KCP, we offer all treatment options and, following a comprehensive assessment, choose the one that best suits you. There are several distinct aspects to rehabilitation, and we attempt to address them all.

  1. Treatment for the affected body part.
  2. Specific strengthening or stretching programmes.
  3. General fitness or gym-based programmes.
  4. Holistic perspective.

We understand that having an injury can cause distress (you try 12 weeks on crutches; it can drive you nuts), so we can discuss some strategies for overcoming and dealing with these kinds of issues. We can also provide guidance for nutrition-related issues. At KCP, we can access x-rays, ultrasound scans, specialists, orthopaedic and neurosurgeons if necessary. We can also liaise with your doctor, case manager, teacher or employer if required.

Exercise, Pilates and Stretching Programmes

As part of your treatment programme, your physiotherapist may recommend that some form of exercise would be helpful. From experience, everyone has their own opinions about what is best for them – all we can do is prescribe you a stretching, strengthening or general fitness schedule based on international best practice protocols. It's your call whether or not you take that advice. It is said that "health is your best insurance". Nowadays, more people are comfortable with gym training and accept that home-based training has limitations. Sometimes, a burst of exercise for as little as 6-12 weeks might do the trick, and once it is better, you can decide whether to continue. If you are a member of a local fitness centre, we should be able to provide you with guidelines for developing and implementing a gym routine. Some of our physiotherapy staff have advanced experience in this area and can be accessed if necessary. KCP Physiotherapy partners with Kiwi CrossFit in Manchester Street. Pilates is an excellent conditioning program that improves muscle control, strength, flexibility, balance and coordination. It is suitable for all ages and caters for all fitness levels, from beginners to elite athletes.
